Fire all ANC Ministers and Deputy Ministers: SA opposition party tells President

Date: Jun 27, 2025

The leader of South Africa’s (SA) Democratic Alliance (DA) party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the African National Congress (ANC), following what it calls the unjust firing of its member, Andrew Whitfield

The Presidency announced Whitfield’s axing from the position of Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition. DA leader, John Steenhuisen, took to the podium during the Division of Revenue Bill debate calling the move, a calculated political assault on the party.

The party has issued SA President Cyril Ramaphosa with an ultimatum, to fire all ANC Ministers and Deputy Ministers in his cabinet implicated in corruption scandals, within the next two days. Steenhuisen says he was not even given a heads up.

He suggested that Whitfield's refusal to make certain appointments, which he found suspicious, was the reason for the firing, describing Ramaphosa's actions, as a sign that he hold DA members of Parliament to different standards to the ANC.

“While a DA Deputy Minister is removed for not getting a response to seeking permission to travel, there are members of the cabinet who are implicated on the VBS scandal. There are members of the cabinet who have misled parliament over an attempt to deploy corrupt cadres to seta boards,” Steenhuisen said.
