In a press release, the council halted gatherings near the Court of Cassation, citing security concerns and the limited capacity of the Marcel Lihau courtroom, which can only accommodate 150 people.
To ensure the transparency of the proceedings, the hearing will be broadcast live on national television RTNC as asked by the advocates of the country’s former Minister of Justice. This decision also aims to curb the call for mobilisation launched by Mutamba's NOGEC political party, which is urging its members to "support their leader constant, Mutamba Tungunga, the Former Congolese Minister of Justice."
Mutamba is accused the misappropriation of more than $19 million which, could intervein to the rehabilitation of some infrastructures like the Kisangani Prison and some apartment of dentations houses in the Kisangani region. But Mutamba and his supporters have rubbished the charges, claiming they are a political ploy.
