This follows recent comments by Trump on social media, where he accused SA of "confiscating land" and threatened to cut US funding to the country.
In a statement on Monday, the SA Presidency reaffirmed that it remains a constitutional democracy grounded in the rule of law, justice, and equality.
It dismissed claims of land confiscation, clarifying that the recently adopted Expropriation Act is not a tool for land seizure but rather a constitutionally mandated legal process designed to ensure equitable access to land.
The government emphasised that SA, like the US and many other countries, has long had expropriation laws that balance public land needs with property rights protections.
It remains committed to addressing land reform through legal and democratic means and believes that open dialogue with the Trump administration will help foster a better mutual understanding of the policy.
Beyond land reform, SA views the US as a key strategic political and trade partner.
The statement noted that with the exception of PEPFAR Aid, which accounts for 17% of SA’s HIV/AIDS programme, there is no other direct US funding received by the country.
