The latest figures from Statistics South Africa reveal a jump from 31.9% to 32.1% in the third quarter of 2023, translating to 7.9 million unemployed individuals.
This increase, exceeding many experts' predictions, has sparked concerns about the future of employment in the country.
Labour analyst Michael Bagraim issued a stark warning, emphasizing the potential for further escalation, "Unfortunately, the current government's approach, focusing on itself creating jobs, falls short. This is not the government's responsibility. Its key role is to foster an environment conducive to job creation by the private sector."
