Speaking at the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA’s 9th National Congress in Birchwood, Gauteng, Ramaphosa addressed concerns over the impact of reduced US funding for HIV and AIDS programmes. The funding cuts have sparked widespread debate on how South Africa can adapt and sustain critical health initiatives.
On the sidelines of the congress, Ramaphosa highlighted the importance of SA strengthening its financial independence to secure long-term stability.
“In many ways, this serves as a wake-up call for us as South Africans. This is a matter under discussion, and our sovereignty is key. As a nation, we must always find ways to take care of our own citizens,” he said.
