SA coastal town prepares for next month’s 42nd Knysna Oyster Festival

Date: Jun 14, 2025

The town of Knysna in South Africa’s (SA) Western Cape Province is gearing up for the 42nd Knysna Oyster Festival, scheduled to take place between July 4 and 13

As usual, the festival's sporting calendar is jam-packed with favourites like the forest marathon. The media launch has taken place in the area. Margaretha Van Tonder manages one of the most popular restaurants in Knysna, which specialises in oysters.

“There's the cultivated oyster which is the pacific farmed grown oyster, that is the one that was originally farmed here and now in Port Elizabeth and Saldhanah Bay. Both will be on offer and there's variations of them. The soups can be ordered cooked, raw, dressed, those are the two main oysters you will find here. And obviously in all their various sizes, from look large sizes, down to cocktail sizes,” Van Tonder said.
