Only small vehicles and people are cleared to cross the border into Mozambique. The suspension took place prior to Mozambique’s Constitutional Council’s declaring the ruling party, Frelimo the winner. Sporadic protests erupted in the streets of Maputo since yesterday.

The council declared FRELIMO's Daniel Chapo as a winner obtaining 65% of the vote down from the initial 70 percent declared by the Mozambique Electoral Commission.

“Until we are given assurance that indeed even if the protest is to kick in the corridor is protected by the military as well as the police on the Mozambican side, so that we can able to push the trucks. But, for now we are not pushing the any trucks as it were. The threat in a far as this protests is concerned is just on cargo, and that is why we don't think if we were to divert people from Lebombo here, into Mananga enter Eswatini, exit into Mozambique through Lomahasha as it were. We don't think they would go and block the people, but they are just targeting the Maputo corridor because they want to have an impact in terms of cargo movement,” BMA, Dr Mike Masiapato.
