However, he emphasised that grievances against the SA government should ideally be raised within the country’s democratic structures.
The group reportedly met with the US officials to raise concerns about high crime levels and the government's handling of the issue. Lamola, while acknowledging their right to engage internationally, reminded all SA of their responsibility to act in the national interest.
“South African's must know that even when you are abroad, you have a duty and responsibility to promote SA’s national interests,” Lamola said. “Whether you are part of an opposition party or any other group, this country’s Constitution gives everyone including minority platforms the space to raise their grievances here at home. That is exactly why the President is convening a national dialogue.”
He added that the Constitution provides a framework that allows for the peaceful expression of dissent and the constructive resolution of challenges.
