The agreement, confirmed by DRC’s military authorities, marks a fresh chapter in a long-standing and at times uneasy security partnership between the two neighbours. Ugandan troops have operated in eastern Congo intermittently for nearly three decades, a presence that has sparked debate both domestically and internationally.
Despite the controversies, Ugandan officials maintain that their sole objective has been to dismantle rebel networks responsible for widespread violence in the border regions. The ADF, originally formed in Uganda, has entrenched itself in eastern DRC, where it has launched frequent attacks on civilians and security forces alike.
While details of the accord remain limited, sources suggest it will reinforce co-ordination on the ground, covering areas such as intelligence sharing, logistics, and joint operations.
