Former SA field ranger among suspects arrested for Kruger National Park illegal hunting

South African (SA) police in Mpumalanga province have arrested two suspects for illegal hunting and trespassing in the country’s Kruger National Park

According to police, the two were arrested after field rangers on patrol discovered tracks of four individuals, two of the other suspects managed to flee.

One of the suspects is a former field ranger who had previously worked in the park and was dismissed in 2021 for conspiracy to commit a crime, a matter still being heard in the province’s Skukuza Regional Court.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson, Jabu Ndubane says the former ranger was found wearing a ranger uniform. Ndubane says they were also found in possession of one impala head, one dead warthog, and seven snares.

 

They are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
