SA teens disappointed with current leadership

Date: Jul 17, 2023

As South Africa (SA) celebrates Nelson Mandela's legacy, a group of young people have expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

The Nelson Mandela Children's Parliament, held in the Eastern Cape province, gave a platform for teenagers from different provinces to voice their concerns and opinions.

They said the country's leaders are not living up to the ideals of democracy, equality and justice that Mandela fought for.

The members participated in different commissions discussing violence against children, cyberbullying, teenage pregnancy, mental health, and their submissions to Pillar Seven of the SA's National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) as recommended by the Presidential Summit on GBVF.

Honourable member, Tebogo Chabalala (17) from the Gauteng province, raised her concerns about cyberbullying and called for parents to avoid putting wrong content on social media platforms, especially, TikTok, as this may lead to cyberbullying.
