The lions were put down yesterday following a weeklong joint operation aimed at recapturing the animals after they strayed into nearby villages.
According to authorities, the lions had already attacked livestock in the affected communities, raising safety concerns. Despite efforts to safely capture the big cats, it was deemed necessary to euthanise them to prevent further harm.
The escape of the lions has sparked discussions among residents about the measures in place to manage wildlife in and around the Kruger National Park. Many have expressed frustration over the loss of livestock, which is vital to their livelihoods.
