Mozambique security fragile ahead of elections

Date: Sep 6, 2024

As Mozambique is gearing up for general elections on October 9, security remains fragile following reports of Islamist terrorists ambushing a Rwandan police patrol on Saturday night.

By Michael Mbewe

This happened in Mocimboa da Praia district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado.  The incident claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl who was accidentally shot by the terrorists.

Political analyst Wilker Dias confirms that last week a man was robbed in a store and injured on the broad daylight. After which,a small group from the terrorism attacked attacks Mocimboa da Praia village where a 16-year-old girl was shot dead.

Dyers says this group of terrorists belongs to Ansar al Sunna, which is a part of Al- Shabaab.

“At the moment, all political parties continue to campaign normally and there's no big alarm from the authorities,” said Dias.
