Tselane highlighted that insufficient progress has been made to ensure the system's readiness, even for the national elections in 2029.
Tselane emphasised the importance of simplicity in the e-voting digital system to accommodate individuals who are not technologically savvy. He also noted that implementing e-voting would eliminate the need for most South Africans to stand in long queues to cast their votes.
"There has not been much work done to ensure that all processes are in line for the purposes of the 2026 election, having to be run electronically. So, that would take time. You have got to test the system. You have got to try and get the procurement arrangement, to get the service provider. So, we don't have enough time, essentially. But if the Electoral Commission of SA would have started from the time when we started in 2013, you know, maybe they would have gone far," Tselane said.
