The report assesses the practical enjoyment of rights and freedoms outlined in the Bill of Rights over the past financial year.
The Vice Chairperson of the Foundation, Christina Teichmann says although there has been progress since the dawn of democracy, many people still live in poverty.
The report focuses on the most threatened rights such as the right to work, the threat of crime and the right to public health care, housing and education.
Teichmann says, “Since then especially since the dawn of the democracy in 1994 some good progress has been made in terms of improving people’s lives with housing, health service, education social security and so on.
However, as we all know many people in SA are still trapped in poverty and the inequality is higher than anywhere else in the world.
But human rights are not just about tangible and measurable goods.”
