Key figure in radical SA political party jumps ship

Date: Aug 15, 2024

Floyd Shivambu, the Deputy President of South Africa’s (SA) opposition, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has left the party.

Shivambu announced he will be joining newly formed uMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party, the party of former SA President Jacob Zuma.

He resigned from his position in the EFF and has asked to be released from all duties in the Party.

EFF President Julius Malema has accepted Shivambu’s resignation but says the door will remain open for Shivambu to come back.

Malema says this resignation should not be interpreted as the collapse of his Party.

The EFF leader also announced that Mzwanele Manyi has also resigned from the party to join MK Party.

The EFF is briefing the media on the leadership changes in its top structure in Johannesburg.
