Former SA President intends to meet leaders of Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger

South Africa's (SA) former President, Thabo Mbeki says he intends to meet leaders of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger in an effort to move from their countries from military to civilian rule.

Speaking to the SABC in Dar es Salaam Tanzania, Mbeki says Burkina Faso leader, Ibrahim Traore has reached out to him for a meeting to discuss the situation in his country. Mbeki says he doesn't support unconstitutional change of government, “We are in contact with all three governments in Sahel region.

They are asking to work with them to help determines what happens next in their countries and We are requesting the Malians to ensure that while we are in Bamako they arrange that we meet that delegation from Niger and Burkina Faso does come that is what we are proposing as a first step.  There is a very important issue that has been raised by those coups in the Sahel region.”
