Rwanda, DRC Presidents agree to attend a meeting set for tomorrow

Date: Jan 28, 2025

Kenyan President William Ruto says that the Presidents of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have agreed to attend a meeting set for tomorrow.

This to discuss developments in eastern DRC, where M23 rebels say they have seized control of Goma on the Congo-Rwandan border.

President Ruto called for the urgent summit in his capacity as the Chairperson of the East African Community.

Addressing a media briefing he said the situation demands a collective focus,” As the current chair of the East African Community, Kenya is aware of the region's critical responsibility in the escalating violence and facilitating dialogue between the parties involved. We confirm and firmly believe that a sustainable solution can only be achieved through engagement, constructive dialogue, and a renewed commitment to peace.”
