Two stray lions spotted wandering near Kruger Park in SA province

Date: May 30, 2025

Two stray lions have been spotted in a veld in Plange-Mtititi village on the northern side of the Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa's (SA) Limpopo, which borders Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.

The lions are believed to have escaped from the park, as it borders the village. Community Spokesperson Isaac Khosa says the rangers were called but could not trace the animals.

Environmental affairs authorities are yet to comment.

Khosa is calling on the communities and livestock farmers to remain alert.
He says, “The lions were spotted in the bushes where animals, usually cattle, graze near Kruger National Park’s Shangoni gate. Authorities dealing with wild animals were alerted and came to search, but couldn’t find anything, we are alerting our community members to be on high alert.”
