The plan begins with the planning phase, which started on September 20 followed by the execution phase, commencing on December 10. This phase will focus on securing both entry and exit points. The demobilisation phase will begin on January 15, 2025 with the sustenance phase continuing until the year’s end.
Masiapato highlighted that key ports such as OR Tambo International Airport and the Beitbridge border post will see heavy traffic. As part of the preparations, the BMA has engaged with neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Lesotho to extend operating hours at selected ports.
Masiapato also stressed the importance of ensuring all travel documents are in order, including valid machine-readable passports with at least one blank page for stamping.
To enhance security, drone operations will be employed at high-risk areas, supported by mobile reaction units. The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Leon Schreiber, will visit the Beitbridge post on December 11 to oversee the deployment of this new technology.
