WFP rolling out lifesaving food, nutrition assistance programme in West, Central Africa

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is rolling out a lifesaving food and nutrition assistance programme in West and Central Africa during the ongoing June-August lean season.

The organisation says nearly 55 million people are projected to face acute hunger during the June-August lean season - the WFP says malnutrition in the regions has reached extraordinary levels, with an estimated 17 million acutely malnourished children under five.

The World Food Programme says is concerned about the 2024 seasonal forecasts which painted a grim picture of both dry spells and floods in parts of the region, potentially disrupting farming and livestock productivity. For more on this we are joined on the line by ...
