Namibian President dismisses Agriculture Minister amid corruption allegations

Date: Apr 28, 2025

Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has taken immediate action to dismiss Mac-Albert Hengari, the country’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, following serious allegations of corruption.

Hengari, who was recently taken into custody, faces charges that include bribery and his involvement in a rape case.

This decision is in line with Nandi-Ndaitwah's commitment to combating corruption, a stance she has consistently emphasised since assuming office. Before becoming President, Nandi-Ndaitwah vowed to lead a government that upholds transparency and integrity, promising to hold accountable any members of the National Assembly found guilty of corruption or breaching the law.

In Hengari’s case, it is alleged that he attempted to bribe a rape victim in order to prevent the case from being reported. The accusations have stirred concern among the public, but many have lauded Nandi-Ndaitwah’s swift response.

In a statement on the matter, she pointed out; "I will never hesitate to take action against members of the National Assembly who are found involved in acts of corruption or violation of the country’s laws."
