Taking to his social media platform X, Musk revealed the party’s name; the America Party. He says it is being formed in response to what he describes as a “one-party system” in Washington, one that, in his view, mismanages public funds and undermines democratic values.
The move is likely to stir political debate across the US, as Musk, the world’s richest man and a former adviser to Donald Trump, positions himself as a reform-minded outsider challenging the status quo.
According to the BBC’s Arunoday Mukharji, Musk’s decision appears to stem from frustration with recent government policies, particularly a bill he claims promised to curb spending but ended up doing the opposite.
“This might be his way of testing public sentiment,” said Mukharji. “He’s made it clear that he believes the only way to bring real change is through the creation of a new political force.”
Musk has long expressed concern over federal spending, arguing that the U.S. is on an unsustainable path. With the launch of the America Party, he’s now putting political muscle behind that message, though how much support it will draw remains to be seen.
