The late leader’s family halted the repatriation shortly before he was due to be flown back to Zambia from South Africa, citing a feud with the government. Lungu passed away in South Africa earlier this month.
Mweetwa says the government remains committed to ensuring that Lungu receives a dignified farewell.
“The government of the Republic of Zambia is not tiring in engaging the family to ensure that the former president Edgar Lungu is repatriated back to his homeland and given a befitting, dignified farewell. That is what we are working on. That is what President Hakainde Hichilema is focused on — to make sure this impasse is resolved,” said Mweetwa.
