Among the African nations expected to attend is Egypt, a key player in regional diplomacy, as well as representatives from the Arab League and other Muslim-majority countries.
The Spanish government has described the gathering as a vital platform to encourage international dialogue amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been vocal in his criticism of Israel, labelling it a “genocidal state” and questioning its participation in cultural events such as the Eurovision Song Contest.
Last year, Spain officially recognised Palestinian statehood, following the lead of countries like Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia, whose Foreign Ministers will also participate in the talks. The meeting in Madrid seeks to build momentum for renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending violence and finding a lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
