SA President receives warm welcome from Canadian PM ahead of G7 Summit

Date: Jun 16, 2025

South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has received a warm welcome from host of the G7 Summit, Canadian Prime Minister (PM), Mark Carney.

The presidents of the G7 and the G20 group of nations exchanged pleasantries after Ramaphosa's arrival in Canada to attend the ssummit’s outreach session.

Speaking before a private bilateral meeting Carney said it was a great honour to have Ramaphosa in the country.

“I've been a long admirer of your leadership in SA, and now your leadership of the G20 and the world is very much in your hands at a crucial time. And if I may say, from a Canadian perspective, the strength of the ties between the country are great, including down to the level of assistance in natural disasters, and South Africa has always provided us with support during times of difficulty, including with forest fires, we reciprocate. There's much to be built on together, and I look forward to our discussion,” Carney said.
