This, following explosive allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal province's Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and other senior officials.

During a media briefing over the weekend, Mkhwanazi alleged that Mchunu has links to criminal syndicates and has interfered with high-profile investigations. The claims have ignited widespread political concern, with opposition parties urging Parliament to urgently intervene.

Parliamentary Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo confirmed that Didiza has received formal requests from political parties calling for a snap debate on the matter in line with National Assembly rules.

Additionally, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police has written to the Speaker, requesting direction on how the committee should proceed, given its constitutional oversight role.

"The Speaker has since received two letters from political parties requesting a snap debate on the issues raised by General Mkhwanazi, in accordance with the Rules of the National Assembly. In addition, the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police has written to the Speaker seeking guidance on how the Committee should address these matters, as they fall within its oversight responsibilities. The Speaker is currently considering all of these matters," Mothapo said.
