The exact charges against Omotoso remain unclear, however, the Department of Home Affairs has stated that his arrest stems from the rejection of his application to overturn the Minister’s decision declaring him a prohibited person in SA.
Omotoso was taken into custody on Saturday morning, shortly after leading a prayer service at one of his churches in East London. He has since been detained at the Mdantsane Police Station.
His court appearance follows a significant legal victory last month when the High Court in Gqeberha acquitted Omotoso and co-accused Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho. The trio had been facing serious allegations, including charges of rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
