Prayer meeting held in SA ahead of sentencing in child trafficking case

Date: May 27, 2025

A small group of women held a prayer gathering outside the venue for the sitting on the Joshlin Smith matter, in South Africa’s (SA) Western Cape province

Sentencing procedures were expected to resume in the town of Saldanha Bay, after the 6-year-old's mother, Kelly, her co-accused Jacquen Appollis and Steveno Van Rhyn were convicted on charges of child trafficking.

Joshlin went missing from her Middlepos home in February last year. The women are calling for a maximum sentence for the accused and justice for Joshlin. They say their children are not safe. They are also demanding Kelly to tell the whole world what she did to the little girl. There is a strong police presence inside and outside the venue.
