SA government goes after notorious Wastewater Treatment contractor for “Mickey Mouse work”

Date: May 17, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina says government will not allow Blackhead Consulting, the company previously contracted to upgrade the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works, to get away scott-free

The company linked to businessman and corruption accused, Edwin Sodi, failed to complete the refurbishment project.

The City of Tshwane, where the project if located, has now initiated the process of blacklisting the company and has submitted all relevant documentation to the National Treasury. Majodina says government cannot allow people to carry on with what she has termed as Mickey Mouse work.

“They are not off the hook. We are going to assist the municipality to ensure they pay for their sins. This has caused harm in in the area and it is up to us as government at all spheres or also working with the provincial government, that we must bring the issue of trust, bringing the issue of trust. People must trust their government and when the government is intervening, it intervenes for the good,” Majodina said.
