The Johannesburg, South Africa launch will focus on human rights developments in Southern Africa, the role of the Southern African Development Community and the African Union in protecting human rights in the region.

HRW says their annual review of human rights practices around the globe assesses progress in human rights issues in the past year in over a hundred countries and territories, including 25 in Africa.

The leadership of the organisation will also discuss growing authoritarianism of governments and implications of governance in the region.
