She said it's crucial for in safeguarding children from abuse.
The register, which contains the names of convicted sex offenders, is set to be opened to the public without requiring an application. Currently, over 32 500 sex offenders are listed.
Kubayi has committed to ensuring that schools and ECD centres can access the register effortlessly, eliminating bureaucratic barriers.
"I've told the team that the current system of accessing the register is both inefficient and ineffective. Under the current process, schools and centres must apply for a certificate, a process that can take too long and isn't guaranteed. This puts children at risk, especially when repeat offenders are involved," Kubayi said.
This move is expected to offer greater protection for children by enabling institutions to quickly check the backgrounds of those working with young learners, helping prevent potential abuse.
