SA dismisses 27 Home Affairs officials in Anti-Corruption

Date: Mar 25, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber, has confirmed the dismissal of 27 officials from the Department of Home Affairs between July 2024 and February 2025.

Speaking at the launch of the Border Management and Immigration Anti-Corruption Forum in Pretoria, Schreiber highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling corruption within the sector.

The forum aims to address fraud and misconduct within immigration services, a long-standing issue that has undermined the department’s integrity. Schreiber warned that further dismissals are likely as ongoing investigations continue to expose irregularities.

"Between July 2024 and February 2025, 27 officials have been dismissed from the Department of Home Affairs for a range of offences, including fraud and corruption. We announced 18 of these dismissals in November last year, and since then another nine officials have been dismissed. Once appeals that are currently ongoing are completed, this number is likely to increase further still," Schreiber stated.

The Minister stressed that authorities are determined to clean up the department and ensure immigration processes remain fair and transparent. The establishment of the anti-corruption forum marks a decisive step towards restoring public confidence in the country’s border management and immigration services.
