Malema, who was scheduled to speak at the Africa Together Conference at Cambridge University, could not attend the event after UK authorities refused to grant him a visa.
Addressing supporters at Freedom Park in Johannesburg over the weekend, the EFF leader lambasted the decision, arguing that barring individuals from speaking simply because of differing views is a form of political intimidation.
“They are cowards because when you disagree with someone, you do not have to ban them,” Malema said.
“Apartheid banned our leaders. Apartheid banned Elias Motsoaledi. Apartheid sent Elias Motsoaledi to prison for a very long time because they did not agree with his ideas. When you don’t agree with people, you must not ban them because that is a sign of cowardice,” he said.
