Date: Jul 8, 2025

South African (SA) police have arrested five suspected illegal miners in the villages of Atok and Ga-Phasha in the Limpopo province

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Masekela Magoro says one of the accused was allegedly caught illegally transporting chrome at Atok.

Upon his arrest, the driver was also found to be an undocumented immigrant and his vehicle confiscated. Magoro also says four others were arrested in Ga-Phasha village, where they were charged with contravening SA’s immigration laws.

“These operations underscore the police’s ongoing commitment to combating illegal mining activities and immigration violations. The police will continue to work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law and protect our natural resources,” Magoro said.
