SA opposition reject appointment of eminent persons in the upcoming National Dialogue

Date: Jun 11, 2025

South Africa's (SA) opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has rejected the appointment of eminent persons in the much-anticipated upcoming National Dialogue which President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday.

Over 30 people including the likes of Springbok Captain Siya Kolisi and former Member of Parliament Lindiwe Mazibuko, have been appointed to form part of the Eminent Persons Group, which will guide and champion the National Dialogue.

The EFF says it completely rejects the appointed people who will form part of what is referred to as eminent persons, as there is nothing eminent about most of the individuals.

The party says that the appointed members are African National Congress (ANC)-aligned either by direct membership or through historical or current support of Ramaphosa and his internal political party ambitions.

The EFF says the national dialogue is a politically motivated ploy and patronage that rewards the mascots of the ANC and in some instances the Cyril Ramaphosa 2017 campaign.

The EFF has since called for public participation in the nomination and selection of the Eminent Persons Group.
