SA amends issuing process of critical skills visa

Date: Apr 10, 2024

South Africa's (SA) Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, says the issuing process of critical skills visa has been amended but not changed, meaning individuals will no longer have to wait four years for the special visa.

Motsoaledi briefed the media on the amended immigration regulations yesterday. During the 2022 State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa said that SA will be reviewing the entire visa system to make it easier for foreign nationals and investors to apply for tourist, business, and work visas.

Motsoaledi says there has been a recommendation of the introduction of a remote work visa, “There are people who want to stay in SA, but while they're working for other countries, in other words, they are not employed by SA.

“They are employed by other countries, mostly in the fields of auditing, IT, finance. Those areas you can do them for your employer while you are not in that particular country. So, we allow them, the remote work visa, to come and so join in SA while they're working for those particular countries.”
