The focus of this substantial deployment will be on notorious crime hotspots, particularly eThekwini and Zululand. Commissioner Masemola, addressing a contingent of South African Police Service (SAPS) members at the Tshwane SAPS Academy in Pretoria, affirmed the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of communities in the beleaguered province.
This latest deployment marks the fourth wave of additional police presence in the province since May, a strategic part of the SAPS's post-election operation. The Commissioner was keen to reassure the public, dispelling fears of a repeat of the 2021 looting crisis. "While we acknowledge the province's challenges with crime, we are confident that the bolstered police force will maintain peace and order. Our officers are there for the community of KwaZulu-Natal, and we are prepared to confront any criminal activities firmly," stated Masemola.
The SAPS's proactive approach reflects a broader initiative to keep communities safe and restore public confidence in the province's law enforcement capabilities.
