South Africans urged to uphold Madiba's legacy

Date: Jul 16, 2024

The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund has urged South Africans to uphold Madiba's legacy by uniting to protect children from the prevalent abuse in the country.

In the build-up to Mandela Day this week, the organisation held a Fun Walk for vulnerable children.

The fund's Chief Executive Officer, Doctor Linda Ncube-Nkomo, says “the protection of children is really part of our day-to-day work.

“Our vision  is to change the way society treats its children and youth  and when it comes to the safety and protection of youth, and when it comes to this, if we had to grade ourselves as a country that is 30 years into democracy, how we have done with child safety, we are doing very poorly.

“It needs more than just a day to talk about child protection. It needs us to be constantly aware as people who look after children.”
