Two suspected kidnappers arrested, others flee as SA police rescue victim

Date: Jun 28, 2025

Police in South Africa (SA) have rescued a man in the suburb of Germiston, east of the city of Johannesburg, after he was kidnapped on Thursday

Two suspected kidnappers were arrested yesterday after the victim's car was found abandoned in the town of Dawnpark. Police investigations revealed that the owner of the vehicle had been kidnapped and was being held against his will.

Police Spokesperson, Amanda van Wyk says police remain committed to dismantling kidnapping syndicates and bringing perpetrators to justice.

“Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while others managed to flee during a shootout with police. The rescued victim confirmed he had been kidnapped on June 26. Just last week, police traced a Mozambican kidnapping kingpin to an apartment block in the Fourways area. The suspect, linked to several kidnappings, was fatally wounded in a shootout with police,” van Wyk said.
