The bodies of Sinothando and another teenager, Ibanathi Peter, were discovered in bushes by community members in Kariega. It is alleged the two were raped by four men, who forcefully entered a house they were socialising in with other teenagers and killed them on the scene.

Peter was buried on Saturday. The four suspects have since been arrested and face charges of murder and rape. Malinga's uncle Ndikho Malinga says the family is still reeling over the loss of Sinothando.

“What has happened has really hurts us as a family. We are not ok at all. We are happened ever in this area. This happened when we least expected it. We will be only be ok when the boys that did this are punished, because what they did is wrong,” Malinga said.
