Addressing delegates at the Africa Chief Executive Officer Forum in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Ramaphosa welcomed the latest ceasefire agreement between opposing factions in the DRC. He said the withdrawal of SADC Mission in the DRC troops was a necessary move to pave the way for meaningful peace talks.
“There are a number of processes that have been underway on the continent, the Nairobi process, the Luanda process, and initiatives by the African Union. These have played a vital role in laying the groundwork for peace and rebuilding trust,” said Ramaphosa.
He added that recent agreements, including the ceasefire and troop withdrawal, signal progress in the long-running efforts to stabilise the region.
Ramaphosa stressed that peace remains a fundamental condition for development and economic growth across the continent. He called on African leaders to remain united in addressing conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
The DRC has experienced decades of conflict, with regional and international actors repeatedly calling for a coordinated approach to restoring stability. Ramaphosa’s remarks come as part of ongoing efforts to support African-led solutions to the continent’s peace and security challenges.
