Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed that Mantashe will continue to carry out his duties as Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources while serving in the acting police portfolio.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu was placed on special leave after KwaZulu-Natal province police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused him of being linked to notorious criminals who have now infiltrated law enforcement agencies.
