Sergeant Rachel Kutumela, her sister Anna Shokane and daughter, Flora Shokane, allegedly benefited millions of rands from the death of nine people. Investigating officer, Captain Keshi Mabunda, was expected to continue with cross-examination opposing bail. However, Magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi postponed the bail application as Captain Mabunda is bereaved.
“It is sad to announce that the witness who is testifying before the court as per request has lost his brother and as such, we sympathise with the situation. So far, counsels, together with the state, have agreed to postpone this matter. We’ve agreed that the matter be postponed to a further date, which is the 23rd and 25th for a bail application,” Netshiozwi said.
During a previous court appearance, Mabunda told the court that Kutumela had lied to some insurance companies that one of the nine deceased was the father of her daughter in order to cover him and claim from the insurance policy.
He further went on to say that the deceased Sydney Montsha had no child with anyone, including Kutumela.
