German experts to probe Malawi Vice Presidential plane crash

Date: Jun 21, 2024

In a significant development following last week's tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others, the Malawi government has announced the imminent arrival of aviation specialists from Germany.

Government Spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu confirmed that the team is expected to land in the country tomorrow to commence a thorough investigation into the incident.

President Lazarus Chakwera has issued a directive ensuring the German experts face no restrictions in their investigative efforts, emphasising the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability in the wake of the catastrophe.

In a further announcement, the minister revealed that the national Independence Day celebrations scheduled for July 6th have been cancelled.

This decision comes as a mark of respect and mourning for Chilima and the eight individuals who perished alongside him. The nation now enters a period of reflection as it awaits the findings of the forthcoming inquiry.
