Date: May 19, 2025

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Nontando Nolutshungusaid Monday’s march was expected to further demonstrate how happy the party is that the VAT increase has been scrapped by the courts.

The National Chairperson of South African (SA) opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Nontando Nolutshungu has described the party's value-added tax (VAT) march to the country’s national treasury offices, as a victory for the poor. The march, which comes two days before SA’s Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana's delivery of the national budget, is expected to begin at 10h00 CAT at the seat of government in the Union Buildings.

"So today, we are not only celebrating the victory, we are also here to reaffirm our stance against the increase of VAT and against the austerity measures that will affect the poor. Because you will know, that any austerity measures, the first portfolios that they come for, it is education, it is health, all those portfolios that affect the poor," Nolutshungu said.
