Tensions mount as deadline approaches for Hamas hostage release

Date: Feb 14, 2025

As the deadline for Hamas to release all Israeli hostages approaches, tensions have escalated, with both sides preparing for potential conflict.

United States President Donald Trump has given Hamas until Saturday to free the hostages, a call echoed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who warned that the Israeli Army is ready to attack if Hamas fails to meet the deadline.

A Palestinian group has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement, claiming that these violations have forced them to delay the release of the remaining hostages. Hamas has stated that mediators are exerting pressure to ensure the ceasefire deal is fully implemented.

According to Hamas, this includes ensuring that Israel abides by a humanitarian protocol, allowing the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and detainees to continue.

On the other hand, Israel has called up military reservists in preparation for a potential re-eruption of war in Gaza if Hamas does not meet the Saturday deadline to release more Israeli hostages.
