The soldiers, part of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission, lost their lives in an attack by M23 rebels.

Sources from the SA embassy in Kampala have confirmed that the bodies will be airlifted out of Uganda on a Tanzanian airline flight. The flight is scheduled to take off midday on Wednesday. It will make stopovers in Tanzania and Malawi, as part of the repatriation process.

The Tanzanian airline will first stop in Tanzania, where two of the 18 bodies on board will be offloaded, followed by another stop in Malawi for the same purpose. The remaining bodies will then be flown to an Air Force Base in SA with the arrival expected later on Wednesday.
