SA Minister mourns passing of  Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire Zolani Mtshotshisa

Date: Apr 18, 2025

International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola says he is deeply saddened by the passing of South African (SA) Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Zolani Mtshotshisa.

Mtshotshisa passed away at a hospital in SA.

Lamola says Mtshotshisa was a dedicated public servant who played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

“Ambassador Mtshotshisa was committed to deepening political, economic, and people-to-people ties between South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire. His contribution to diplomacy will not be forgotten,” said Lamola.

Mtshotshisa, a former anti-Apartheid activist, was instrumental in the November 2023 re-launch of SA Airways' Johannesburg to Abidjan route. He presented his credentials to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara in 2020 and was widely praised for his efforts to boost trade relations between the nations.
