That's the view of the KwaZulu-Natal Province Violence Monitor, Mary de Haas, who has questioned the duration of said inquiry. The announcement comes a week after KwaZulu-Natal's Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, publicly accused the minister and other senior officials of obstructing law enforcement operations targeting organized crime. De Haas says she is not opposed to a commission, but this delayed approach could prove costly.
“So I understand where the President in coming from and I am not opposed to a commission. I think it could have been quicker, we had a goldstone commission. It’s too long, how long does it take you to call for evidence that is already there because Mkhwanazi says he got the evidence, I’ve got the evidence. All it needs is for a commission to procure the dockets,” De Haas said.
